SOTW: Amon Düül II – Archangel Thunderbird

Amon Düül II – Archangel Thunderbird 7″ – Archangel Thunderbird
At the forefront of the early 70’s German psychedelic rock scene were the eclectic collective known as Amon Düül II. Their first few albums became milestones in what was later referred to as Krautrock. This catchy track was originally released as a 7″ single in 1970. It’s a slight departure from their signature sound, featuring vocalist Renate Knaup (who later joined Popol Vuh in 1974).

Song of the Week : Kommunity FK – Something Inside Me Has Died (Remix)

Kommunity FK – The Scream Compilation – Something Inside Me Has Died (Remix) | Download
Kommunity FK formed in 1979 and inspired much of the 80’s deathrock scene in Los Angeles, bringing an American edge to a genre mostly dominated by Brits at the time. This rare track is a remix from their second album, Close One Sad Eye. This version appeared on the vinyl-only 1987 LP Scream – The Compilation, dedicated to the infamous LA deathrock club. Also featured on the collection were a freaky new LA band called “Jane’s Addiction”.

Numerology 2.1 released
“Numerology is a revolutionary new MIDI sequencer, it is a modular sequencing environment designed for performing musicians. It works by giving the user an organized workspace within which they can quickly create and connect together a variety of highly functional sequencing and MIDI event generating modules. As a fully modular environment, the user can construct sequencing instruments that fit their own unique and twisted requirements. The sequencers follow a model similar to that used by analog sequencers: the user creates sequences of control values that can be routed to other modules to control generation of notes or MIDI CC and Pitch Bend messages.”

Song of the Week : Tones On Tail – Rain

Tones On Tail: Rain (1984)
It’s been raining a lot here the last week or so in NYC. Here’s one for spending a lazy day indoors… Lush analog synths (sounds like a Roland Juno possibly), dubby drum machine effects, and one of my many favs from their post-Bauhaus/pre-Love And Rockets era…
